With the help of technological tools, the traditional creative walls which have surrounded art directors, designers and illustrators are coming down. They’re being replaced by creative work groups; whether in the same room or halfway around the globe; where everyone is encouraged and expected to contribute on every level. To be truly marketable and successful in this environment, you will need many skills. Knowing how to think is key.
That, simply, is why we have developed our curriculum around both advertising and illustration. So that graduates are prepared to help synthesize and assemble a unified visual statement that communicates successfully. Our objective is to develop illustrators who understand the elements of design, and designers who appreciate the impact and use of color, composition, and the visual approach of illustration.
This constant exposure to both disciplines will prove beneficial to helping you gain an entry-level position. For the most diligent and motivated student, it gives greater flexibility in employment options and advancement opportunities in their field of interest.
At Hussian, we help you develop your skills on three levels. The most important of these is learning to think creatively. Mastering a vocabulary, understanding traditional art concepts, and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the uses and limitations of all media is vital.
On a technical level, you are prepared to render your ideas in a variety of styles using many techniques and programs. You’ll understand the production process from creating original art to preparing pre-press production for printing, using either traditional or digital solutions. You’ll learn how to communicate with service bureaus, paper distributors, photographers, printers and other design and illustration support services. You’ll be proficient in a wide variety of the latest real-world software to help you illustrate, layout and animate for anything from posters to movies...from desktop presentations to teleconferences on the Internet.
On a practical level, we not only give you a good foundation in common business practices, we also teach you to develop and create your portfolio and resume, research your job market, deal with clients, give a professional interview, and to communicate and sell your ideas to the mainstream marketplace.
Most importantly, you will be prepared to work in a world where the ability to create ideas that can be understood by many audiences will not only be valuable, it will be indispensable.
And the Hussian student is recognized by employers as knowledgeable, skilled and thoroughly prepared to meet these needs in today’s demanding workplace.
