“Hussian School of Art is proud of its reputation as a Career School,” noted Hussian President Ronald Dove. “Simply put, Career Schools offer market-driven, career-specific training for today’s high-growth industries such as Visual Communication. We differ from most public institutions with our emphasis on providing students with the skills most in demand by employers – an alternative to the traditional liberal arts education.”
Providing students with training relevant to the needs of employers is a hallmark of the Hussian program. As Mr. Dove notes, “Hussian offers concentrated education in Visual Communications, with majors in Advertising Design and Illustration. Courses include Fantasy – Art & Illustration, Advanced Studio Workshop and Computer Graphics, Flash Animation, Digital Photography and Web Design, all relevant to the industry today. Our students benefit from coursework developed by a faculty of working professionals, who feature ‘live jobs’ as classroom assignments for companies seeking corporate identity or logo development. Students also benefit from visiting professionals, who share their professional expertise during classroom presentations and critiques.” Small classes, with low teacher-to-student ratio, give students full opportunity to interact with this group of professional artists. The experience develops each student’s unique talents, and readies them for professional opportunities.

A portion of students’ professional opportunities at Hussian is in the form of Internships. Recent reports have cited Internships as a crucial factor in placement — and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employers state that a majority of their new hires have Internship experience. According to Mr. Dove, “Students are interning with area design studios, advertising agencies, corporate art departments, digital production studios — everywhere that professional design and illustration is needed. One of our 2007 graduates, Theron Cook, interned with Vibe Magazine in New York City. Through the experience he received, and the professional contacts he made during his time with Vibe, he is now designing and developing the new magazine, MUTE.”
“Hussian, along with all Career Colleges, are united by our commitment to meeting the needs of the 21st Century workforce,” notes Mr. Dove. “We encourage students evaluating today’s art programs to schedule a private tour — or sit in and participate in classes. This is an effective way to see first-hand what Hussian has to offer.”
