Nick Calvanese Wins Logo Contest

Fairmount Park Conservancy, an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the community, economy and environment of Philadelphia by raising awareness and funds for the Fairmount Park system, recently conducted a logo contest for one of its signature programs, Growing the Neighborhood. Established in 2004, Growing the Neighborhood is a program of citizen-initiated park improvements to the neighborhood parks of the Fairmount Park system. This year’s program provides capital improvements for two of the system’s parks: the Garland Street section of Tacony Creek Park, and the 33rd and Dauphin Streets section of East Fairmount Park.

Designs were judged by a panel of Fairmount Park Conservancy staff, Fairmount Park Commissions staff, and lead sponsors of the program: ACE INA, NovaCare, US Facilities and PRWT Services. According to the Conservancy’s Executive Director Katrina Wilhelm (pictured at right with Nick), the competition included entries from not only area art programs such as University of the Arts, but also from professional graphic designers. Hussian Senior Nick Calvanese created the winning entry. Nick was presented with a $250.00 gift certificate to Pearl Art Supply. In addition, 200 volunteers wore t-shirts with the logo design, and signage featuring the logo was displayed during an event on September 20th, at East Park. The event helped to “clean, green and celebrate” the fifth year of the program. Congratulations Nick – an impressive logo for a worthy cause.
